The Subjective Assessment of IADLs of the People with Psychiatric Disability Self Report Versus Care Giver`s Report and Predictors of Discrepancies
Kim Moon-Geun

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare the subjective assessment of IADLs of the people with psychiatric disability between the disabled and their care givers and to find out the predictors of the discrepancies. For this purpose the author analysed 315 paired samples from the Human Rights Committee¡¯s Research on People with Psychiatric Disability and Their Care Giver(2008). According to the analyses care-givers appeared to over report functional disability of the people with psychiatric disability compared to the disabled. Predictors of the care-givers¡¯ over report of disability of the disabled were daily living problems, perception of social prejudice against the psychiatrically disabled, family income. On the other hand the predictor of the disabled¡¯s under report of their own functional disability was vocational role. But the effects of the vocational roles and family income on the disabled¡¯s and care-givers¡¯ assessment of IADLs were opposite. This study contributed to conceptualizing the subjective components of functional disability assessment and finding out determinants of the discrepancies between the disabled¡¯s and the care-givers¡¯ subjective assessments. Based on the results the author suggested more studies on the subjective experiences of the functional disability of the psychiatrically disabled. The author also suggested the rehabilitation counselling to minimize discrepancies in functional disability perception between the disabled and their care givers.
